Meet Suzanna

A life of service and dedication to Michigan

Born in Livonia and raised in Farmington Hills and then Clarkston, Suzanna Shkreli is a first-generation American of Albanian heritage. Her parents came to the United States as children to escape authoritarianism in the former Yugoslavia and to build a better life here in Michigan.

Growing up, Suzanna learned the value of hard work — and good customer service — from her parents. She worked in the family restaurant alongside her three siblings, stocking shelves and serving customers. Carrying that work ethic into everything she did, Suzanna played competitive ice hockey from the age of five through high school.

After graduating college in just three years, Suzanna went straight to law school and then joined the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, where she served for nearly eight years. As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney she spent half her tenure in the Child Protection Unit, securing convictions against child predators, abusers, and murderers — delivering justice for vulnerable children.

In 2019, Suzanna was appointed Deputy Legal Counsel in Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration, working on a wide range of issues, including coordinating with the Secretary of State’s office to ensure the safe and lawful meeting of Michigan’s electors in December 2020.

In 2021, Governor Whitmer appointed her as Michigan’s Child Advocate. In 2023, she served as the state’s Director of Juvenile Justice Reform within the Department of Health and Human Services. In 2024, she became Commissioner of the Michigan State Lottery, where she helped deliver more than $2 billion to support public schools across the state over two fiscal years.

Today, Suzanna Shkreli is a Democratic candidate running to be Michigan Secretary of State to defend our democracy. Shkreli took on some of the worst offenders imaginable in the court room, and she will bring that same toughness and tenacity to protecting our institutions and Michigan’s electoral system.

But Suzanna also knows that a Secretary of State can work to make life better for hardworking Michiganders. That’s why Shkreli will champion implementing a new digital driver’s license, work for faster election results, and walk-in hours for seniors – bringing the same dedication to customer service she learned in her parents’ restaurant to make government more efficient and working people’s lives more convenient.
